Palettes
The “Palettes” series of images is a team project of artist Robert Hyatt and photographer Paul Corbitt. Hyatt fabricated hundreds of polyresin castings in the 1980s, with the aim of presenting color studies and exploring abstract compositions. Three decades later, Corbitt is photographing the castings with macro lenses to simultaneously capture both their opaque and translucent colors and to highlight their striking designs.

Paul Corbitt is a retired journalist who has loved photography since he first developed black-and-white film in the darkroom more than 50 years ago. His current digital camerawork centers on macro-images of flowers and on Hyatt’s polyresin castings – in both cases seeking to showcase the beauty of pure colors and abstraction.
Hyatt and Corbitt have been friends since 1973, and this close relationship has enriched their collaboration on the “Palettes” project and their ideas on the artistic potential of the polyresin images.
